Polygon Pictures Announces New Business Partnership with GREE
to Co-develop Cross-media Shared Content System
Polygon Pictures ("PPI," President and CEO: Shuzo Shiota, Head Office: Tokyo, Japan) is proud to announce that we have signed an agreement with GREE, Inc. ("GREE," Chairman and CEO: Yoshikazu Tanaka, Head Office: Tokyo, Japan) to form a new business partnership. New shares in PPI will be allocated to GREE, as part of a collaborative plan to develop SC2, a cross-media 3D CG content sharing system.
About this Financial Partnership
GREE will accept a third-party share allocation in PPI. New shares will be issued and allocated to GREE, who will then hold a 4.76% stake in Polygon Pictures.
About this Business Partnership
Production methods for animation and games have until now been carried out largely independently of one another, due to technological limitations and other factors. However in recent years, as the landscape of the content creation industry continues to change in leaps and bounds and new sectors such as AR/VR and "Virtual Youtubers" have proliferated, the need has arisen to develop cross-platform content with little lead-time.
Into this business environment, Polygon Pictures and GREE will bring their respective advanced technical know-how and apply this to the development of SC2: A Sharing System for Cross-media Content; a system to rapidly deploy high-quality 3D CG assets across multiple media platforms. Using Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4 as a common engine, we aim to build a framework which allows effective and efficient creation of all types of content.
Originally founded as the operator of a social network, GREE quickly emerged as one of Japan's mobile Internet pioneers, developing the world's first mobile social game. Today GREE continues to diversify as a technology company with a range of businesses including mobile games, live entertainment, digital media, advertising, and investment.
