Polygon Pictures (“PPI,” President and CEO: Shuzo Shiota, Head Office: Tokyo, Japan) is proud to announce that HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle-, with animation produced by our studio, has reached over ¥2 billion at the domestic box office.

This title is Japan’s first interactive movie, and began screening at 85 theaters from Friday, February 21, 2025. Due to the special equipment needs, screenings continued in a limited number of 60-80 theaters. According to Japanese box office watchdog Kogyo Tsushinsha, while some films in the past have started in around 10 theaters and blown up to major hits shown in 150 theaters or more, HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle- is the first film in Japan to surpass ¥2 billion in box office revenue with fewer than 100 theaters nationwide from its opening day.
Furthermore, this film marks the first time a theatrical release produced by our studio has surpassed the ¥2 billion box office mark.

This film is Japan’s first interactive theatrical movie, in which the outcomes of the rap battles on screen are decided by audience votes via smartphone app. With 48 possible routes and 7 different endings available, audiences cast a total of 5 votes during each screening. This system, where the outcome hinges on their votes, immerses viewers in the story, as well as creating an unprecedented, unpredictable viewing experience where the plot and conclusion change with each screening—another factor in the film’s success.

To commemorate the 8th anniversary of the HYPNOSISMIC Project yesterday (September 2) a revival screening of the film is now underway at 66 theaters nationwide. An 11th round of theater-exclusive gifts (until September 12) and 12th round (September 13-19) will also be available. About HYPNOSISMIC –Division Rap Battle-

● Introduction
HYPNOSISMIC is a music-based character rap project launched in September 2017.
It features 18 distinct main characters divided into six teams, or “divisions”: Ikebukuro, Yokohama, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Osaka, and Nagoya, who engage in heated rap battles.
Leading rappers and trackmakers from the Japanese hip-hop scene contribute to the music that colors these battles. Voice actors perform and rap the various songs, allowing each character’s story to unfold centered around the music.
Furthermore, HYPNOSISMIC uses its character-driven music and story-rich audio dramas as source material for various media mixes, including comics, app games, live stage performances, and anime adaptations.

● About the Movie
HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle- is Japan’s first interactive movie with audience participation. The outcome of the rap battles unfolding on screen is decided by votes cast by the audience inside the theater.
Voting occurs in real time via a smartphone app utilizing the CtrlMovie system developed by US-based Kino Industries. The story progresses according to the choices which receive the most votes.
Every individual audience member’s choices contribute to the developing story and ending for each screening!
