MECH CADETS by Polygon Pictures
Nominated at Annecy!

Polygon Pictures (“PPI,” President and CEO: Shuzo Shiota, Head Office: Tokyo, Japan) is proud to announce that Mech Cadets, produced by our studio, has been nominated in the TV category at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Mech Cadets is an animated series based on the Boom! Studios comic series Mech Cadet Yu by Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa. It is set in the future after Earth was attacked by a race of alien invaders, in which teenager Stanford Yu, a janitor at a military academy, must learn to pilot a giant robot and battle a new alien threat alongside his friends. Polygon Pictures is producing alongside with Boom! Studios, the publisher behind Mech Cadet Yu. Aaron Lam (Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, 2011; Ash vs Evil Dead, 2018) serves as the writer and executive producer of the series. The series will begin streaming on Netflix in 2023.

BLAME! and Human Lost, films with animation produced by Polygon Pictures were screened officially at the Annecy Festival in 2017 and 2019 respectively, but this is the first time that a title produced by our studio has been nominated for the competition section of the awards. The 2023 Annecy International Animation Film Festival will be held at Annecy, France, from June 11 to 17.

About Mech Cadets

Mech Cadets is an animated series based on the Boom! Studios comic series Mech Cadet Yu by Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa. Fifty years in the future, Earth is under attack by a terrifying alien species. Teenager Stanford Yu works as a janitor at the Sky Corps Military Academy, but he’s only dreamed of one thing his entire life – to pilot a Robo Mech, giant robots from outer-space who came to our aid. When he finally gets his shot, Stanford and his classmates must put aside their differences and work together as a team in order to defend humanity against the alien threat. The series will begin streaming on Netflix in 2023.

About the Annecy International Animation Film Festival

Established in 1960 from the animation category of the Cannes International Film Festival, and now the world's largest and most presigious animated film festival. Each year, in addition to the competition works, approximately 200 recent domestic and international films are screened, attracting approximately 120,000 visitors. The MIFA marketplace is also held during the festival, one of the world's largest animation trade fairs attended by animation industry professionals from around the world, making this one of the year’s most important events for the industry.
